REMAINING INDEPENDENT IN MY HOME

Many older adults want to stay in their own homes as they get older but have concerns about getting around, safety, or other daily activities. Planning ahead can be hard to do however, our health care providers can assist you with this process. This can include assessing your home for safety and access, taking into consideration your mobility needs as you age. A few changes can make your home easier and safer to live in, while also reducing your risk of falls. We can also coordinate support services to help you with your personal care, housekeeping, outdoor maintenance, and/or meals. If you have difficulty leaving your home, we can coordinate companion care, transportation in the community, and help with errands. Our Indelife therapists are here to help you!

Here is how IndeLife can help with aging at home independently

  • In Home Assessment by an Occupational Therapist- we will provide you with recommendations to make simple adaptations to your home to improve your access and independence with daily activities. This might include suggestions for assistive devices, technology, and/or home modifications to help you remain as independent as possible.
  • Falls Prevention Education- we will provide you with education and helpful tips to minimize risk of falls in and around your home as you go about your daily activities.
  • Kitchen Safety Assessment- an Occupational Therapist will assess your ability manage cooking tasks and provide recommendations for adaptations, assistive devices, and/or support services to help you manage meal preparation and cleanup.
  • Cognitive Screen- An Occupational Therapist can administer a cognitive screen to evaluate your ability to manage simple daily tasks

  • Assess your needs for Support Services – Your IndeLife Occupational Therapist will evaluate your ability to manage your daily activities. Where appropriate, we can assist you with services set up and coordination from a companion to attend medical appointments, housekeeper, personal support worker, meal delivery, grocery delivery, and/or home maintenance services (e.g. landscaper).
  • Community Integration- your IndeLife Occupational Therapist can provide recommendations for recreational and leisure pursuits in your community and help you get involved. We can set up activities and provide support for as long as you require.
